US Q3 mixed: S&P 7,652; PCE 3.4%; CMT 10Y 5.29%
Wed 30 Sep US Q3 close: S&P 7,651.54; BEA Aug PCE +3.4% y/y / core +3.0%; Treasury CMT 10Y 5.29%. Brent Nov $103.53 settle. Into India Thu open.
60-sec
US cash Wednesday (30 Sep 2026 — Q3 close): S&P 500 closed 7,651.54 (−0.25%); Dow Jones Industrial Average 50,906.05 (−0.86%); Nasdaq Composite 26,861.06 (+0.24%); Russell 2000 2,796.86 (−0.4%). Soft-flag VIX session colour roughly 16.0–16.3 until Cboe settle locked.
PCE + GDP (hard — BEA, 30 Sep 8:30 ET): August PCE price index +0.3% m/m · +3.4% y/y; core PCE +0.2% m/m · +3.0% y/y. Personal income +0.2%; DPI +0.3%; current-dollar PCE spending +0.9%; real PCE +0.6%; personal saving rate 4.1%. Q2 2026 real GDP third estimate 2.2% SAAR — revised +0.7 pp from the second estimate (1.5%); Q1 revised to 2.5%.
Yields (hard lock — Treasury Daily Yield Curve CMT 30 Sep): 2-year 4.88% · 10-year 5.29% · 30-year 5.64%. Prefer the CMT row as the dated official lock; secondary cash/feed bands stay soft vs that print.
Oil — settles (hard): Brent Nov $103.53 (+0.92%); WTI Nov $90.42 (+1.16%). Settled higher after Tue’s wash — still elevated vs summer. Prefer these settles over alternate live / continuous-roll feeds (Thu early Brent continuous soft near ~$98 is a roll artefact, not the Nov settle).
FX soft: USD/INR Yahoo soft ~95.82 early Thu; prior RBI/NSDL conversion colour 96.0321 (29 Sep). Do not invent a fresh RBI ref until FBIL/RBI prints it.
Into India Thursday: Wed IST cash soft-flag — Nifty ~22,620, Sensex ~72,480 (Yahoo; confirm NSE/BSE). Primary clocks today: Moneyview list-watch (CC wire) · NSDL FPI Sep equity SE (CC wire). Overnight mixed US + 5.29% CMT 10Y + settled-elevated oil is the global weather into cash open.
Takeaway: Cooler PCE did not end the yield story — CMT 10Y rose to 5.29% from Tue’s 5.26%. Today’s US tape watches initial claims (~8:30 ET); Friday is payrolls.
Analysis
What Wednesday’s US cash tape printed
Nasdaq held a slim gain (+0.24%) while the Dow led the red print (−0.86%) and the S&P finished −0.25%. Russell also red (−0.4%). That is a rates / growth-digestion Q3 close after the morning’s cooler PCE bounce faded when the GDP third estimate and the yield curve kept the discount-rate weather loud — not a forced panic label. Prior CC framed the Tue soft into PCE day (prior CC).
The PCE / GDP hard prints
Official BEA Personal Income and Outlays, August 2026 (embargo lifted 8:30 ET Wed 30 Sep):
| Measure | August |
|---|---|
| PCE price index m/m | +0.3% |
| PCE price index y/y | +3.4% |
| Core PCE m/m | +0.2% |
| Core PCE y/y | +3.0% |
| Personal income m/m | +0.2% |
| DPI m/m | +0.3% |
| Current-dollar PCE m/m | +0.9% |
| Real PCE m/m | +0.6% |
| Personal saving rate | 4.1% |
Official BEA GDP third estimate, Q2 2026: real GDP 2.2% SAAR (vs second estimate 1.5%; advance 1.5%). Q1 revised to 2.5%. The stronger spring growth print helped keep long-end yields bid even as August PCE came in cooler than many desks had marked.
The CMT lock and the oil settle
Official U.S. Treasury Daily Yield Curve Rates (CMT) for 30 Sep 2026:
| Tenor | CMT |
|---|---|
| 2Y | 4.88% |
| 10Y | 5.29% |
| 30Y | 5.64% |
That is a +3 bp step-up on the 10Y vs Tue’s 5.26% CMT — same mechanism Capital Chronicle framed when the 10Y sat near ~5% earlier this month (prior explainer).
Oil settles (30 Sep): NYMEX WTI Nov $90.42 (+1.16%); ICE Brent Nov $103.53 (+0.92%). Desk rule: cite settles, not a live alternate-feed or continuous-roll collapse. Crude rebounded from Tue’s wash and remains elevated vs summer — soft oil is not the Wednesday story; the 5.29% 10Y CMT is.

Into India’s open / Moneyview list weather
