Month-end flows + Thu open watch (1 Oct 2026 early IST): NSDL Daily Trends in FPI Investments — reporting through 30-Sep-2026 — show a red September on the equity stock-exchange route, with Wed 30 the heaviest single session in the month’s table as summed by this desk.

NSDL page: https://www.fpi.nsdl.co.in/web/Reports/Monthly.aspx — “Daily Trends in FPI Investments on 30-Sep-2026”. Desk summed the published Equity / Stock Exchange and Equity / Primary market & others Net Investment (Rs. Crore) rows for each September reporting date on that table — not a third-party monthly digest.

Wed index colour (soft-flag — Yahoo Finance exchange-linked regularMarketPrice for ^NSEI / ^BSESN early Thu IST; NSE equity-stockIndices API and BSE PublicIssue API Access Denied from this box; Yahoo daily bar close for 30 Sep still null at desk pull):

Re-check live https://www.nseindia.com and https://www.bseindia.com index quote pages after the cash open before treating any Yahoo figure as final exchange EOD. This desk does not invent a “worst month in X years” ranking without a primary historical table.

Thu open watch: Soft-flag — early IST before cash open. Parallel IPO process desk: Moneyview listing day.

Takeaway: September’s FPI story on NSDL is secondary-market equity selling with a still-positive primary-market equity offset — do not collapse SE and primary into one headline without the split.

Analysis

Why lead with NSDL, not a secondary monthly wrap

Capital Chronicle already filed a mid-month FPI colour piece using a CDSL-cited cut through 18 Sep. Month-end needs a primary close of the book. NSDL’s Daily Trends table publishes session-by-session Equity / Stock Exchange and Primary market & others nets through 30 Sep 2026 — that is the cut used here.

Read the split, not only the SE red

Three layers sit in the same NSDL month:

  1. Equity stock exchange — desk sum ~₹(45,537) Cr across 21 September reporting dates; Wed 30 alone ~₹(10,743) Cr
  2. Equity primary market & others — desk sum ~+₹9,676 Cr (IPO / primary colour can run while cash-market selling is red)
  3. All-asset total on Wed 30 — ₹(12,813.76) Cr (equity + debt buckets + hybrid + MF/AIF rows on the same daily card)

A red SE month and a green primary month can coexist. Headlines that say “FPIs abandoned India” without the primary offset overstate the cash-market print; headlines that say “FPIs are buying IPOs so secondary selling does not matter” ignore the SE magnitude.

Heaviest SE sessions in the NSDL September table (desk sort)

DateEquity SE net (₹ Cr)
30 Sep(10,742.99)
07 Sep(6,713.45)
01 Sep(6,139.56)
29 Sep(5,538.32)
25 Sep(4,617.61)

Index soft-flag into Thu open

Yahoo’s exchange-linked regularMarketPrice prints for Nifty (22,620.45) and Sensex (72,480.29) align with the Wed close colour widely discussed overnight — but this desk could not pull a saved NSE/BSE official HTML/API EOD card (Access Denied). Yahoo’s own daily bar for 30 Sep still showed null close at the early-Thu pull while regularMarketPrice carried the soft print. Treat Thu as open-watch, not a locked open call. No support/resistance prophecy.

Soft spots (do not flatten)

  • Desk sums of NSDL daily rows are arithmetic on the published table — prefer NSDL’s own monthly aggregate if/when the site publishes a locked month total that differs
  • Yahoo index prints are soft-flagged, not official exchange EOD HTML
  • No “worst September since …” ranking without a primary multi-year index table
  • Primary-market FPI buying does not cancel SE selling one-for-one in portfolio terms
  • No politics; not investment advice
