Nifty snaps eight-week losing streak at 22,520 even as FPIs sell ₹30,294 crore; DMart Q2 profit ₹743 crore, HCLTech and RBL Bank report today

A Friday rally of 1.30% — 46 of 50 Nifty stocks up, IT +3.02% — was just enough to end eight straight weeks of losses. Foreign funds sold every day of the week, and domestic funds bought every share back, almost to the crore. Results season now takes over: DMart’s Saturday numbers showed sales up 18% but margins thinner, and HCLTech reports on Monday.

Analysis

A narrow escape, not a turn

The week’s gain came almost entirely on Friday. Nifty had fallen to 22,231.80 on Thursday 8 Oct after the RBI’s rate hike and an ₹12,944 crore FPI sale (Thursday’s story). Friday’s 288.65-point bounce, led by IT and FMCG, took it to 22,520.45 — only about 0.44% above the previous Thursday’s 22,421.95 close. Oil & gas was the one major sector index in the red (−0.09%).

The Nifty’s price-to-earnings ratio on NSE’s index page stood at 19.27 at Friday’s close. The index is still about 10.6% lower than a year ago, per the same NSE data.

DMart: sales grow fast, margins slip

Avenue Supermarts (DMart) filed Q2 FY27 results on Saturday 10 Oct:

Q2 FY27ConsolidatedStandalone (stores)
Total revenue₹19,644 cr (+17.8%)₹19,206 cr (+18.4%)

Net profit₹743 cr (+8.5% from ₹685 cr)₹804 cr (+7.6%)
Basic EPS₹11.40₹12.32

Growth rates for consolidated revenue and profit are Capital Chronicle arithmetic on the company’s figures.

MD & CEO Anshul Asawa said stores at least two years old grew 9.5% in the quarter, up from 6.8% a year ago, and that entry-level wage inflation pushed operating costs up slightly. DMart opened 15 stores in Q2, taking the total to 518. Profit grew about half as fast as revenue, which is the number to watch when the stock trades on Monday.

Vector Line joins existing investors TPG and Novo Tellus. Tessolve said the money will fund growth including acquisitions, and that it is in advanced talks on multiple deals over the next couple of quarters. Co-founder and CEO Srini Chinamilli said the investment “will support acquisitions”; chairman Ujjwal Munjal said the company shows that “an engineering business built from India can compete and lead globally.” The company did not disclose a valuation or stake size.
